Introductory packrafting weekend on the Ourthe
Fancy some time in the great outdoors, a bit of relaxation and a touch of adventure? This hiking & packrafting weekend is designed for anyone who wants to discover the Ardennes in a different way, in a format that’s accessible, friendly and perfectly suited to families or anyone keen to ease themselves gently into the world of backpacking.
Over two days, we’ll alternate between hiking and packrafting on the Ourthe, constantly moving between forest trails and the river’s meandering course. The itinerary has been designed around a central base camp, set up by the riverbank, allowing us to go hiking and packrafting every day without having to change accommodation or deal with complicated logistics. We set off in the morning on foot or by packraft, and return to the same spot in the evening, at a comfortable and reassuring pace.
Whether from the footpaths or from the water, the landscape reveals itself in different ways. Walking allows you to gain height and traverse forests and valleys, whilst the packraft offers a more intimate experience of the Ourthe, as you drift along its calm waters, past its cliffs and through its wilder stretches. This contrast makes for a fun, immersive and progressive experience, naturally encouraging you to slow down, observe and enjoy the Ardennes to the full.
