Memorial erected by the city of La Roche.
Marie Adrien Perk, born in 1834 in Delft, was a pastor in Dordrecht and Breda in the Netherlands. In 1882, he wrote the first tourist guide to the Ardennes in Dutch. This eminent literary man had a fervent admiration for La Roche and he had set himself the goal of making our city and its natural beauties known.
Jaak Perk, his son, was a poet and also made many trips to La Roche and wrote poems dedicated to our city.
His best-known work is “Ode à Mathilde”. Sadly, he died very young.
They are one of the reasons our town receives so many Dutch visitors.
