Summary
The monument was erected in memory of the Canadian crew of a B17 or B29 bomber returning in poor condition from a mission over Germany, which crashed in the woods of Samrée in February or March 1944, well before the Battle of the Bulge and even before the Liberation.
The poppy cross was added during the 60th anniversary year.
Note the maple leaf on the flagstones in front of the stele, the sign of a monument to Canadians.
